STYLE-SHARING ETIQUETTE

Share clothes and ideas with care

Style sharing stays enjoyable when fit, timing, care, privacy and responsibility are discussed clearly before a garment changes hands.

Ask without creating pressure

Describe the piece and date you have in mind, and make refusal easy. Do not assume access because someone lent an item before. The owner should explain any sentimental value, known weakness or situations where the garment should not be worn. Agree who else, if anyone, may handle it.

  • Keep measurements and handover details in a private message
  • Confirm the complete set of belts, bags or accessories
  • Choose another option when the owner sounds hesitant

Agree the practical terms

Record collection and return time, approved cleaning, alteration restrictions and what happens if the event changes. Photograph condition together, including existing marks. Discuss accidental damage without assigning blame in advance. For higher-value or formal rental arrangements, use the current written terms and payment route rather than an informal assumption.

  • Never cut, pin, tape or hem without permission
  • Ask before applying perfume, spray tan or stain treatment
  • Keep the garment away from smoke, pets or weather when requested

Return with honesty and gratitude

Air the piece and follow the agreed cleaning process—sometimes that means returning it unwashed. Check pockets and gather detachable parts. If a mark, pull or break occurred, tell the owner before handover and offer the agreed remedy. Return on time with the protective cover or packaging so the piece is ready for its next plan.

  • Do not hide damage with a rushed repair
  • Share a photograph only with permission
  • Thank the lender without implying future access

Questions, answered.

Who is responsible if a borrowed item is damaged?

Responsibility should be discussed before borrowing, especially for valuable or delicate pieces. If damage occurs, disclose it promptly, avoid unapproved treatment and agree repair, replacement or another remedy based on the prior terms and the garment’s actual condition.
